amazingness in the wake of such a tragedy.

i am sure you have heard by now. this story has spread like a wildfire.
nine year old rachel beckwith, a member of my church and a girl from zoe's kids church room; lost her life after a good fight following a pile up on a local interstate involving a semi and log truck. you can read more about the story here.
this last year when her birthday neared, racheal opened a charity:water birthday campaign and asked for donations instead of gifts. you have heard me talk about charity:water on here before. it is an amazing charity that provides clean drinking water to those who would otherwise be drinking from muddy disease filled puddles. this charity is near and dear to our church an a lot of members in fact do this similar act for their birthdays. this is what it says on her page:

"On June 12th 2011, I'm turning 9. I found out that millions of people don't live to see their 5th birthday. And why? Because they didn't have access to clean, safe water so I'm celebrating my birthday like never before. I'm asking from everyone I know to donate to my campaign instead of gifts for my birthday. Every penny of the money raised will go directly to fund freshwater projects in developing nations. Even better, every dollar is "proved" when the projects are complete, and photos and GPS coordinates are posted using Google Earth. My goal is to raise $300 by my birthday, June 12, 2011. Please consider helping me.

Thank you so much!!!"
she had set a goal for only $300 which i believe was not met all of the way, until now.
in the wake of this tragic event donations just started rolling in on her campaign page in her behalf and when she finally lost the fight this last week and her story spread the numbers soared and insane rates. i could sit and hit refresh all day and it was rising by thousands each second.
yesterday morning when i looked it was at $170,000-right now it is at $412,604 no $413, 000 no wait, $413, 108...$414,388. i am absolutely humbled at the way this little girl as touched and inspired people in her one tragic loss of life she is saving over 20,000 people from water disease related deaths.
so, here is where i call you to donate; read her story and get inspired to help out or even start your own chairty: water campaign.

here is rachel's charity:water page http://mycharitywater.org/p/campaign?campaign_id=16396 and our church is also asking for help to cover the family hospital expenses to save them from having to face even one more hardship, if your are intrested in that you can go here.

please spread the word, tweet, blog about it, however you get news around. thanks for listening!

true story

this last week stella has had a rumble-ly tummy; she is feeling/acting fine just…her diapers have been, well, NOT rainbows and unicorns. she is pooping forty-seven times a day and has a nice shiny rash to prove it, poor girl! ok, long story short yesterday was a day from hell. i am quite positive at some point tim even looked at me in desperation and asked if this was indeed hell or something like it.

we were on our way home and i was a emotional wreck due to some things that had happened earlier, all girls were in need of a nap, all types of privileges had been suspended, and tim was about to pull the car over and hand out some good talkin’ tos if the bickering and hitting didn’t stop. that is when it happened…

stella’s diaper EXPLODED, not like it seeped a little; it exploded. then the screams started from zoe, yup you guessed it; stella was throwing her poop at her now tear streamed face older sister. once I had a full grasp on what was happening, i looked at tim and all i could do was start laughing hysterically. you know those moments when all you can do is laugh? or seriously your head might explode? yea, that.

i don’t think zoe appreciated my laughing as her face was turning shades of angry red i had never seen before, so tim bee-lined for the first possible exit and we cowered into the back corner of a mcdonalds to asses the ‘situation.’thankfully for tim’s sake the poop was contained to some areas on stella’s car seat and all over zoe; it had missed any actual car areas by a hair. thank god!

so, this is the point where i should mention that i had forgotten to pack wipes; we are constantly pulling them out of the diaper bag to use at home and they usually don’t make it back in. what did we have? shop towels and a full nalgene water bottle. tim stripped ( a now also hysterical) stel down in a grassy area way in the back and just started sloshing water on her and wiping her down till she was clean. zoe just got down to her undies and took a quick hand sanitizer bath while i wiped down the car seat (it really wasn’t that bad).

windows down, kids subdued, we were off again.

later i sad to tim, ‘i think that was God putting the day back into perspective for us!’ we were all so mad about something different and it was apparent we needed a good laugh at ourselves to humble us a little. i had to laugh for tim a little too, i mean i am a veteran when it comes to things like this; would you believe me if i told you that at almost the exact same area of I-5 a one year old zoe projectile vomited all over the back of my head and the whole back seat of my jeep? and all that i had to clean her up was a bag full of clothes headed to consignment and a container of water meant for a malfunctioning radiator? and i in fact pulled into the exact same mcdonalds to cry and laugh at myself? i think tim’s dad even appreciated it a little as he gave him a play by play later-i bet his dad has been there too.
if that isn’t my family in the raw, i don’t know what is. tt was a long day to say the least but definitely one we can look back on when we need a good laugh.

do you have a story like this? i would love to hear!

addition: we were leaving just now and zoe says, 'mommy, do we have everything we need incase stella poops on us again?' followed by stella getting a stearn talking to about how it would be appreciated if she didn't poop while we were in the car.

let's get real, with some of your favorite mamas! v.4

let’s get real; sometime the day sucks, our kids are extra loud, and you are just begging God to send you an extra pair of arms. i try to be as real as possible here on hi, baby-cause come on life isn't always sparkles and i know mine or your baby isn't pooping rainbows. i love my family to the moon and back but i know how i would answer all these questions and they might not be pretty answers, but hey that’s life. you can bet that every second is worth it though and i will be right back up at it tomorrow.

for the next few plus weeks i am going to introduce you to some of my favorite blogging mamas (three at a time) and their dirty little mama secrets. so are you ready to get real?
chelsey is one of my favorite gals in internet land, her and her little family really are the cats pj's. i met her last year almost this time and and now we can't resist to make it a nearly monthly thing. i can't wait to share how she gets real.

what is the condition of your house right this second?
Terribly messy.
what is something that your nugget(s) do that drive you absolutely crazy?
The meltdowns that always happen after I tell Ruari no. :)
if you suddenly were granted two uninterrupted laundry and dishwasher free hours daily what would you do?
Blog. :D
who is number one on your elevator list? who you can…well, grope without consequence if ever caught in an elevator with said person?
Johnny Depp.
what is your secret weapon to survive a not great day?
I just need some caffeine!
ok, now the most important question; at the end of the day when the house is finally quite how do you unwind?
Spacing out with some tv and maybe some wine. :D

have you met allie yet? if you haven't you are really missing out! her babe henry is ADORABLE, and they are from washington which makes them that much cooler. this girl enjoys a good cold bear just like this mama. i met allie last year too and i can't wait till our trip to georgia next spring where we can play in their neck of the woods.
what is the condition of your house right this second?
Apparently we like to organize our clutter now? Like, everything is just stacked in piles waiting to be put away and it drives me nuts. I keep telling myself that it's because we just moved in and that eventually those pictures will be put on the wall or those books will end up in the right shelf but guys? We moved in two months ago. One awesome thing about organized clutter is that it is easily scooted out of the way for pictures or shoved into a closest when people come over.
what is something that your nugget(s) do that drive you absolutely crazy?
Henry has to have juice any time we're going somewhere. Seriously this kid could drink a carton full of apple juice if we let him. So as we're walking to the car he's frantically saying, "Juice" only he can't really say it so he just makes a horrible hissing sound (Jsssssssss Jssssssss Jssssssss!) He'll drink whatever we give him in like ten seconds, throw the cup at the back of our head, and then it's "Jsssssssss! Jssssssss!" again for the rest of the car ride.
if you suddenly were granted two uninterrupted laundry and dishwasher free hours daily what would you do?
Only two?  I think I'd like to take a nap. Or maybe I would go shopping somewhere fun because that's impossible to do with Henry these days.
who is number one on your elevator list? who you can…well, grope without consequence if ever caught in an elevator with said person?
You know that guy in 500 Days of Summer? Yeah, that guy.
what is your secret weapon to survive a not great day?
I used to hate exercising but lately I've been really into running. It's a great way to work out any stress and frustration. Plus it's something I can't do with Henry (which = more alone time!!)
ok, now the most important question; at the end of the day when the house is finally quite how do you unwind?
I usually pour a drink of some kind, catch up on blogs, and watch trashy late night tv with Garrison.
ashley is a new friend here in the blog world and i am already so in love with her! she is also planning a wedding this year so we're like kindred spirits or something, right?

what is the condition of your house right this second?
Well I live my my parents.. you know cuz Im poor (real life right thurr) So most days it's in pretty good condition but my room? Dis-as-ter. Like actually. And when I did live in my own apartment it was the same way. The rest of the house was clean but for some reason my room is always a mess. Le sigh oh well.
what is something that your nugget(s) do that drive you absolutely crazy?
Skips naptime. Nap time is my everything. If I don't get that break I go nuts. And it makes it even worse because when she doesn't nap she turns into a grumpy tired crabby patty and I can't deal. Right now she is sleeping and I am a happy momma.
if you suddenly were granted two uninterrupted laundry and dishwasher free hours daily what would you do?
Blog, read, watch cheesy tv, and if I had someone watching the baby... go get a Starbucks.
who is number one on your elevator list? who you can…well, grope without consequence if ever caught in an elevator with said person?
Right now? I'm kinda in my TrueBlood kick since the new season just started so Alexander Skarsgard yummo I love me some bad boy vampire action.
what is your secret weapon to survive a not great day?
Starbucks. It's a quick fix to my not so great days. More specifically an Iced venti skinny caramel macchiato. I die.
ok, now the most important question; at the end of the day when the house is finally quite how do you unwind?
If Mikey is home we cuddle up and catch up on whatever show we are into at the moment. Right now Weeds and Trueblood. If he's working late night I catch up on my blogging and reading. Pretty boring but it's the simple things that make me happy.

stay tuned for next weeks, let's get real when i introduce you to that i have recently come across! want to be featured? is your house messier than mine you think? then email me, i would love to have you! hibabyblog (at) gmail (dot) com

lifes a beach.

better late then never right? well, go with the excuse that our trip to cannon beach was so life shattering amazing that it took me all this time to recover and edit the photos. good?
we try and take a yearly trip to the oregon coast, more recently falling in love with this cute little family run camp ground just seconds from haystack rock. we look forward to this trip all year, the camp ground is small, clean, affordable, and comes with clean hot showers!
it was originally going to be tim, me, and another couple friend of ours that we love to camp with but at the last minute we swapped our friends spot for stella and headed to oregon a few fridays back. we bee-lined for the beach the minute the tent was up, i couldn't wait to watch stella play in the sand after our last awesome beach experience.
stella was the PERFECT camper, i wasn't really worried but was still super impressed how good she did. she stayed near the campsite, slept great, ate great, and put up with our go go go schedule. the best tips i can offer if your taking your under two camping is: i bought her a few new toys that she didn't get until we got there and needed to distract her, we brought her pack n'play which was a lifesaver when the fire was going or we were setting up/breaking down camp, and we brought tons of plum pouches for on the go.
we did it all; tillamook, the beach, the shops, the seafood, seaside, and more it was such a blast! other than a few mishaps involving the cold ocean and late application of sunblock meets sand i think stella had the time of her life too.
we finished up the trip with a quick trip into portland so i could get my star tattoos fixed and some birds added to my arm. you may have seen little photos here and there floating around twitter but i plan on posting some better ones once they heal all the way and fill you in on why we will be back at my stars again.
so, since it would have been absolutely impossible to cut the quantity of photos even down by one, you get them all! you like to look at them anyway, don't you?
(these first few photos were from our quick stop in astoria, you might recognize that house from the GOONIES!)
then, you go home.
